Optometrist/Optician
Job Summary
An Optometrist is responsible for performing eye examinations, diagnosing vision problems, prescribing corrective lenses, and providing professional eye care services to patients in accordance with Malaysian healthcare and optical industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Eye Examination
Conduct comprehensive eye tests and vision assessments
Check visual acuity and eye health
Detect refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia)
Use optometry equipment such as autorefractor, slit lamp, and phoropter
2. Prescription & Consultation
Prescribe spectacles and contact lenses
Provide professional advice on vision care
Explain eye conditions and treatment options
Recommend suitable optical products
3. Eye Health Monitoring
Detect early signs of eye diseases (e.g., glaucoma, cataract, dry eye)
Refer patients to ophthalmologists when necessary
Maintain accurate patient records
4. Customer Service
Assist customers in selecting frames and lenses
Ensure customer satisfaction
Provide after-sales service and follow-up
5. Compliance
Follow Malaysian Optical Council (MOC) guidelines
Ensure clinic/shop complies with healthcare regulations
Maintain hygiene and safety standards
Job Requirements
Education
Bachelor of Optometry or equivalent
Registered with Malaysian Optical Council (MOC)
Experience
Fresh graduates are welcome
1–3 years experience preferred (for senior role)
